Driver Spotlight: Eric Blumer

(June, 2018) Eric Blumer is a rookie on the Wisconsin Legend Dirt Racing Series trail in 2018. He comes from a solid karting background, competing in both road circuit pavement racing and dirt oval racing. He is a two-time champion with the Road America Karting Club (2016 &17) and scored a class title on the dirt at Beaver Dam Raceway in 2017.
Blumer may be the hardest working teenager in the pits. The 2018 Sun Prairie High School graduate participated in a work/study program his senior year. He was up at 5:30 a.m. on school days and went to work for Findorff, a construction company, where he helped build a new Sun Prairie elementary school. In the afternoon, he went to school like the other kids and played on the varsity hockey team.
This summer Eric in the summer he works for Pinnacle Hockey Development where he has an opportunity to assist world-class goalies and other professional hockey players during workouts and coaches youth hockey players attending summer camp. He is employed part-time for Road America, primarily with their karting operations. He plans on attending UW-Platteville in the fall.
It’s been a steep learning curve so far for Blumer in the Legend class. He is lucky to have several great mentors and sponsors who are helping him with the mechanics of the car and his driving. Eric is enjoying the variety of tracks the Legends participate on and he is particularly excited to be able to run at his home track, Angell Park Speedway. He has been a pit rat at APS since he was old enough to be signed in.
Eric is the primary owner of his race car. Few drivers, at the age of 18 can say that. He credits a lot of great backers, who’s support has allowed him to get on the track and stay on the track after a number of mishaps (not of his doing).
Sponsors thus far include: Storage & Handling Systems (Bill and Tara Berg), Club LaMark (Stan Otis), Bullseye Games, JW Welding (Joe Wipperfurth), Dog Guard Out of Sight Fencing (Brian and Terri Benisch), Grandpa Blumer, Wilcenski Farms and Bill Kastorff. These folks bring well over 100 years of racing knowledge to the team.
Brian Benisch is the primary mechanic and crew chief for EBR. When he’s not available Justin Hoium and Cody Weisensel fill in without missing a beat. Bill Berg and Willie Krisher, have also helped out. All five bring a many years of racing knowledge. Brian Peterson helps as a technical advisor.
Eric would like to thank his family for their encouragement. The support and friendship of the Legend racing community is also amazing. It’s obvious that this group wants every car to be on the track and they want all of the drivers to be competitive.
