As we look to the 2019 season, it’s good to assess the logistics of the various racing series’ and tracks we will run with. The effort of this article is to explain to our fans the various places and sanctioning bodies that we are involved with.
INEX, U.S. Legend Cars International: This is the worldwide sanctioning body for the Legend car Eric drives. At the risk of making this too simple, they make the rules to which we
endeavor to adhere. The places we race follow these rules. They also keep national and international points. We’ll explain those logistics better during the season. Only a few of the races Eric will run, are included in this points race.
Beaver Dam Raceway: BDR, like many other tracks with various classes, has it’s own point race for the Legends. Most of our races will be at BDR.
Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series: Most BDR drivers also participate in this series. The WLRDS travels a bit, Eric ran last year at Lafayette County Speedway in Darlington, Wisconsin and Angell Park Speedway, with this series. We’ll include their 2019 schedule at some point.
Angell Park Speedway: It’s home. We are so proud to run here. The Legends are not on the card for every APS event, but we hope to be there when they are. These races are run under the WLRDS banner.
All of the tracks Eric races on are dirt tracks. We entertained trying some pavement racing last year. The logistics are not that daunting. Different tires, springs and gearing are the biggest things that would need to be changed on the car. Usually pavement races conflict with our dirt schedule anyway, so it’s unlikely we’ll run any pavement this year.
As to the points races, we have not our goals yet. It’s kind of funny, in karts we usually went in with no intention of running for points. This allows the family to take a weekend off if need be. But, if you start out running well, you start to rethink points. You start asking yourselves things like, “Cousin Joan won’t really miss us at the wedding, will she?” or, “I know we didn’t plan to run all 20 races. But, could you go without your meds for a couple of weeks so we can buy pit passes for the rest of the season?” That’s what point racing does to you…
